GABI: Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology unit
A joint research unit between INRA and AgroParisTech
General Information
On January 1st 2009, six laboratories of the Animal Genetics division, all located on the Jouy-en-Josas research centre, merged to form the new joint "Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology" research unit (GABI UMR).
The GABI UMR, for which both INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) and AgroParisTech (Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences) have joint responsibility, includes 180 scientists, professors, engineers, technicians and students from INRA and AgroParisTech and also from CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) and several technical or professional organisations including the Institut de l'Elevage (French Breeding Institute), the Haras Nationaux (French Horse and Riding Institute) , UNCEIA (French National Union of Cooperatives for Animal Insemination) and IFIP (French Pork and Pig Institute). GABI also houses the National Biological Resources Centre dedicated to Livestock "CRB-GADIE", the Iso Cell Express "ICE" platform and the joint technological unit between INRA and the French Breeding Institute "Genetic Management and Genomics of Bovine Populations".
Research at GABI is aimed at improving knowledge on the genetic variability of biological functions and developing methods and tools for the genetic improvement and conservation of animal populations.
