Teaching and training: a natural role of GABI

In the joint research unit GABI, part of the scientists are involved in teaching and training, in particular those working in the PSGen (Populations, Statistics and Genome) research team. One of GABI's strengths is animal genetics, in research but also in teaching, training and development. An important part of this training activity ensures a close partnership between INRA and AgroParisTech (Paris Institute of Technology for Life Food and Environmental Sciences).

Indeed, GABI is committed to continue developing its international dimension via several programs. In the past, a scientist from GABI was the coordinator of the EST Marie Curie Rivage program and presently, the coordinator for the new Erasmus Mundus European Graduate School in Animal Breeding and Genetics is one of our scientists.

GABI is involved either in the coordination or as contributor of the following courses:

  • Training of engineers from AgroParisTech, in particular agronomists and zootechnicians
  • "Animal Science" major of the Master degree  "Life and Environment Sciences and Technologies"
  • European Animal Breeding and Genetics Master program (Erasmus-Mundus)
  • European Graduate Scool in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EGS-ABG, Erasmus-Mundus)
  • Hosting and training of doctoral students
  • International doctoral courses: partnerships have been developed with both the French doctoral school ABIES (Agriculture, Food, Biology, Environment, Health) and the Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences of the university of Wageningen (The Netherlands)
  • European projects established at the end of the Marie Curie RIVAGE  program (which ended in March 2008)
  • Continued education (CSAGAD), in partnership with professional breeding and selection organisations
  • Biostatistics Master level course at ENSAI (French National School for Information Processing and Analysis and Statistics)
  • Several training sessions at the university of Versailles St Quentin

Every year, approximately twenty doctoral students and as many other students come to GABI for training.
