A comprehensive and structured research facility to meet the challenges of integrative biology
GABI includes four teams dedicating research on a single species to maintain strong relationships with the corresponding breeding industries (cattle, horse, fish, pig) and four teams focusing on cross-cutting theme issues or functions i.e. statistical and population genetics, cell differentiation, immunity, lactation, health and biodiversity.
â–º The "Equine Integrative Biology and Genetics Team" BIGE team
Our research, essentially focused on equine genetics, is aimed at exploiting as well as possible the recent advances gained through the knowledge of the horse genome. Our main fields of study concern the genetic determinism of performance traits and musculo-skeletal disorders as well as the selection of populations.
â–º The "Cell Differentiation and Specialisation" DISC team
Our goal is to decipher the factors of the regulation of gene expression that determine phenotype.
â–º The "Bovine Genetics and Genomics" G2B team
Our studies focus on the analysis of the determinism of bovine phenotypes and on the genetic improvement of populations in both the dairy and beef cattle fields. Our team, which includes the "Genetic Management and Genomics of Bovine Populations" joint technological team, is in charge of the evaluation of breeding animals and leads a program on genomic selection in partnership with the industry.
â–º The "Pig Genetics" GdP team
Our team is mainly concerned with the analysis of the determinism of traits and selection methods in pig.
â–º The "Genetics and Aquaculture" GenAqua team
Our project is to gain knowledge for an efficient management and sustainable use of aquacultural genetic resources. Much of our work is dedicated to the study of the genetic determinism of disease resistance and the use of plant-based feed for fish. We are involved in the trout genome sequencing program. We also develop tools for the management of genetic resources and the optimisation of aquacultural selection programs.
â–ºThe "Genetics, Immunity, Health" GIS team
We study the bases of disease resistance, with experimental approaches using genetics, genomics and functional studies on immune response and gene candidates for the traits studied. We are mainly interested in pig and poultry, both species important in farming and biomedical research.
â–º The "Milk, Genome, Health" LGS team
Our team studies milk and how the mammary gland functions with a special focus on the relation with the consumer's and animal's health. We develop an integrative approach and use methods based on genomic tools.
â–º The "Populations, Statistics and Genome" PSGen team
Our team studies the genetic diversity of animal popoulations and their evolulion, the statistical analysis of gene networks and phenotypes. Our studies are generic but can also be applied to specific species, notably the chicken and the quail.
